Daily card drawn, and any random thoughts...

February 2004

December 2003
October/November 2003
19 February 2004 Card: Six of Swords - Here's a card that shows people going from a bad place to a better one, and that's certainly true of our household at present. This card always makes me feel more optimistic, and in this case it also reflects our changing circumstances. Another thing that has been much on my mind is whether or not I'll be able to afford my usual spring vacation, and the Six of Swords' relationship to travel over water suggests things might be looking up in that area, too.

Swords is not the happiest suit in general, but this relatively tranquil and optimistic card is my favorite of the suit, especially as it has so often foretold better times for me and others.
18 February 2004 Card: Ace of Pentacles - Financially, things have been a bit rough around here lately until today. I was pretty discouraged, but when I drew this card in the morning I thought maybe things would pick up. They did, and we can breathe easy for the rest of the year. When this card appears it may be saying a new path has been opened to success and prosperity, and that's exactly how it worked out today. My daughter -- who is just getting into the habit of drawing a card a day -- drew the Ace of Wands, then went to a job interview and nailed the job.

The Ace of Pentacles represents success in earthly matters, earth here including precious metals, and gold being a synonym for money. If that association seems like a stretch to you, let me take the opportunity (which I seldom let pass) to point out that our minds think in symbols, and we translate into words from there. There is almost no way to exaggerate the importance of symbols to the human mind, from a thundercloud to a smiley face; from a valentine heart to a CokeTM can, and beyond. So the pentacle is the coin, is the world, etc. We say "symbolizes," our subconscious mental functions say "is."

The Ace of Wands is about the new and fortunate. New beginnings are shown here, and Wands often show up in questions of career.
